And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” Luke 18:1 (KJV)

Jesus, as part of the divine council in Genesis 1:26, was involved in the decision to create man in the image of God. Because of His presence in the original blueprint of humanity, anything He commanded or recommended for man must be taken seriously. For example, in Luke 18:1 Jesus emphasized a fundamental principle of human existence: Prayer as an unceasing activity for mankind.

Prayer is not merely a religious exercise; it is an act of priesthood. In its simplest definition, priesthood is the process by which earthly beings authorize heavenly intervention. Through spiritual disciplines such as prayer, fasting, and Bible study, man creates spiritual portals that allow divine influence in the earthly realm.

However, prayer is not exclusive to Christians. Just as believers engage in prayer and spiritual warfare, so do the priests and priestesses of darkness, who invoke demonic powers through chants, incantations, and rituals. This post explores seven types of demonic priesthoods that operate on evil altars. Understanding these priesthoods should stir us to embrace our own priesthood in Christ, for if we neglect our spiritual responsibilities, we risk becoming casualties of the enemy’s priesthood.

ARMORED: 7 Spiritual Warfare Principles for Prayer Warriors

One, Halak Priesthood – The Power of Movement in Claiming Territories

Before his fall, Lucifer dwelt in the holy mountain of God as “the anointed cherub that covereth” (Ezekiel 28:14). Part of his priestly function involved movement over the fiery stones of heaven. Even after his fall, we see Satan continuing a similar pattern. In Job 1:7, Satan said he came, “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” Likewise, 1 Peter 5:8 warns us: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

This type of movement is known as the Halak priesthood, a spiritual practice of claiming territories. In Joshua 1:3, God told Joshua, “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you.” Similarly, demonic priests walk around neighborhoods, marketplaces, and cities, chanting incantations to claim territories for darkness. As believers, we must counter this by declaring God’s Word wherever we go. Our movements should be filled with prayer, declaring the Lordship of Christ over every place we step.

Prayer:Heavenly Father, I take authority over every territory I step into. I dedicate my home, workplace, and community to You. Let Your kingdom come and Your will be done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Two, Astrology Priesthood – Seeking Knowledge from the Heavens

Astrology is an ancient form of priesthood that draws wisdom from celestial bodies (sun, moon, and stars). In Jeremiah 10:2, God warned: “Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.” This verse speaks of a group of heathens who were astrologers.

A biblical example is found in Matthew 2:2, where the wise men from the East followed a star to locate Jesus. God allowed this to direct them to Christ, but He condemns astrology as a source of guidance for daily life. Deuteronomy 4:19 cautions against worshipping “the host of heaven,” as many pagan nations did.

Also, David prayed that the sun shall not harm him by day nor the moon by night (Psalms 121:6). Remember the arrow that flies at noonday (Psalms 91:5) when the sun is brightest, yet it cannot be seen since a manipulation had been done? Remember the Lunatic son that the disciples were unable to deliver in Matthew 17:14-20? Lunatic means smitten by the moon meaning his bondage was tied to manipulation of the moon.

Astrology-based priesthoods manipulate celestial powers to control destinies. In contrast, believers must align with the true prophetic discernment of the Holy Spirit. Like the sons of Issachar (1 Chronicles 12:32), we must understand the times through the Spirit, not through demonic astrology.

Prayer:Heavenly Father, open my spiritual eyes to discern the times and seasons according to Your will. Deliver me from every false guidance and let Your Spirit lead me into all truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Three, Nature Priesthood – Manipulating Creation

In Genesis 1:26, God gave man dominion over creation, but this dominion can be perverted. Satanic priests manipulate natural elements to execute their agendas. For example, Job 1:19 describes how a “great wind” destroyed Job’s children—an example of dark forces influencing the weather. Likewise, Jesus rebuked a storm (Mark 4:39), showing that some natural disasters may have demonic origins.

Beyond weather, we see evil forces using animals (Genesis 3:1), birds (Matthew 13:4,19), and even plants (2 Kings 4:39-40) for wicked purposes. While the temple of the demoniac priesthood is nature, our temple as believers is our bodies (Romans 12:1; 1 Corinthians 6:19), and our hearts are the seats of God’s throne (Ezekiel 36:26). This means that the priesthood of light operates from a higher, heavenly realm as Hebrews 12:22 declares that believers have come to “Mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God.”

Prayer:Heavenly Father, I dismantle every satanic manipulation over nature working against my life. Let every evil altar influencing my environment be silenced. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Four, Legislative Priesthood – Satan the Adversary in the Courts of Heaven

Revelation 12:10 calls Satan “the accuser of our brethren.” In Job 1:6-12, we see him presenting a legal case against Job before God. Satan uses sin as a legal ground to bring judgment upon individuals, families, and nations. Read this post to discover the token of guilt that Satan uses to build cases against men in the Heavenly courts.

Jesus taught three dimensions of prayer: approaching God as Father (Matthew 6:9), as Friend (Luke 11:5-13), and as Judge (Luke 18:1-8). Many believers pray to God as a Father or Friend but neglect judicial prayers. When facing persistent battles, we must engage in courtroom intercession, appealing for divine verdicts in our favor.

Prayer:Righteous Judge, I repent of any sin giving Satan legal grounds against me. Let every accusation be silenced by the blood of Jesus. I receive divine justice and restoration. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Five, Educative Priesthood – Doctrines of Demons

Satan is a teacher of deception. In Genesis 3:1-5, he taught Eve rebellion against God. In 1 Timothy 4:1, Paul warns of “doctrines of devils.” Many false teachings originate from demonic altars, influencing education, media, and religion. As believers, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth (John 16:13).

Prayer:Spirit of Truth, guard my mind against deception. Let Your Word be my foundation, and may I discern truth from error. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Six, Veiling/Covering Priesthood

Before his fall, Lucifer functioned as “the anointed cherub that covereth” (Ezekiel 28:14), tasked with guarding the glory of God. After his expulsion from heaven, Satan perverted this covering role to veil humanity from divine truth. In 2 Corinthians 4:4, Paul writes that “the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ… should shine unto them.” Also, We see this veiling priesthood operating when Moses had to cover his face because the Israelites couldn’t bear God’s reflected glory (Exodus 34:33-35).

Other than mind blindfolds, Satan veils through sin (Romans 3:23), ignorance (Hosea 4:6), the flesh (Hebrews 10:19-20) and all other types of coverings cast (Isaiah 25:7). This dark priesthood manifests through religious traditions that “make the word of God of none effect” (Mark 7:13), philosophical arguments that exalt themselves “against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:5), and spiritual hardening described as “a vail upon their heart” (2 Corinthians 3:15).

His goal is to keep men earth-bound such that they cannot access the light, glory, and mercy seat of God. Through Christ, we have access to the throne of grace and Satan knows that when we access these things, we shall become light that lights others breaking his strongholds. Moreover, Isaiah 25:7 prophesies God’s ultimate victory: “And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations.”

Prayer:Lord Jesus, You tore the veil that separated us from the Holy of Holies. I pray against every spiritual blindness and covering that Satan has placed over my mind, family, and community. Remove the veil that prevents people from seeing Your glory and truth. By Your Spirit, open spiritual eyes to behold Your majesty. Where there is deception, bring revelation. Where there is darkness, shine Your light. I declare that minds are being liberated from Satan’s blinding influence through the power of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Seven, Merchandising Priesthood

By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.” (Ezekiel 28:16) The phrase “By the multitude of thy merchandise” shows that Satan is a skilled trader and negotiator of merchandise. For example, in Revelation 18:13: “And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men” we see that one of the items he trades with is the souls of men.

Satan operates a marketplace where human souls, destinies, and virtues are exchanged for temporary power, wealth, or pleasure. In Matthew 4:8-9, Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world in exchange for worship, revealing his priestly role in trading dominion. In Acts 8:18-20, Simon the sorcerer attempted to buy the power of the Holy Spirit with money, demonstrating how the enemy uses monetary exchange to control spiritual realities. Similarly, in Genesis 25:29-34, Esau traded his birthright for a meal, a clear example of satanic merchandising where an eternal inheritance is exchanged for temporary satisfaction.

As believers, we must be cautious of spiritual transactions that appear harmless but demand the sacrifice of our God-given identity. Satan’s ultimate goal is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) by making individuals sell their birthright, talents, or spiritual heritage in exchange for things that do not satisfy (Isaiah 55:2). Through discernment and spiritual vigilance, we must reject every form of ungodly trade and uphold the righteousness of God in all areas of life.

Prayer: “Heavenly Father, I reject every satanic trade against my destiny. Let every evil transaction concerning my life be overturned by the blood of Jesus. I dedicate my talents, gifts, and destiny to Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

The Characteristics of the Priesthood of Light

The devil may have a million priesthoods but the fact remains that his priesthoods cannot match the priesthood of light because our type of priesthood has the characteristics below:

  • Universal Priesthood: Through Jesus Christ, priesthood is no longer limited to a specific tribe or lineage, but it’s extended to all believers in Christ. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light” (1 Peter 2:9)
  • Heavenly Altar: Unlike the earthly priests, Jesus’ altar is not of this world. He offered His sacrifice in a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands [Hebrews 9:11-12].
  • Perfect Sacrifice: Jesus did not offer the blood of animals but His precious blood. His sacrifice was sufficient to obtain eternal redemption for us [Hebrews 9:12].
  • Eternal, Divine & Kingly Priesthood: Jesus’ priesthood is eternal. He is a priest after the order of Melchizedek, without beginning or end [Hebrews 7:1-3]. This eternal nature sets His priesthood apart from the temporary Levitical priesthood. It’s a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9), we have been made kings and priests (Revelation 1:6), it’s a peaceful priesthood for it’s a priesthood of the king of Salem.
  • Prophetic Company Priesthood: In Ramah, we see how all solutions were solved in the prophetic company. The origin of this technology can be traced to the prayer of Moses. One day Moses was so overwhelmed with leading Israel and the way God provided a solution was that he took the spirit that was in Moses and put it in 70 other men to help in the management of affairs (Numbers 11:25). The same thing that God did when he poured the same spirit that was in Jesus on us and we can continue both to do what Jesus did through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
  • Spiritual Sacrifices: The sacrifices in demoniac priesthoods are casual rituals that only appease for some time but ours are genuine spiritual sacrifices from our hearts – we cannot fake them from they are offered from broken and contrite hearts making them pleasing and acceptable unto God.

How To Retrench The Evil Priesthoods

  • Step One: Thanksgiving – We have been privileged and favored to be made kings and priests after a superior, divine, and royal priesthood.
  • Step Two: Taking a Stand & Repentance – The war against darkness is worn through taking a stand and position in the light and with Jesus Christ.
      • Romans 13:11-15 – God help me to wake from sleep. I cast off the works of darkness – anger, drunkards, rebellion, lies, and more! I put on the armor of light, I put on the Lord the Lord Jesus Christ. I make no provisions for my flesh to fulfill its lusts.
      • Deuteronomy 12:2-3 – God help me to destroy all the places where evil gods are served. Help me to overthrow their altars break their pillars and burn their groves with fire.
      • I declare that I am a royal priesthood and a chosen nation. I am a priest after the order of Melchizedek—a superior priesthood far above all other priesthoods of darkness, for it is eternal, divine, and kingly.
      • I declare that the altar I minister at is in Heaven, not made by human hands and incorruptible, making it far higher and more potent than all earthly priesthoods powered by natural elements.
  • Step Three: Destroy the Horns – Psalms 75:10 – God cut off and break the horns of the wicked to unrepairable pieces, and exalt the horns of the righteous. Horns are the things that give priests and priesteses of darkness spiritual advantage over you and they can be spiritual sight, hearing, wisdom, among others.
      • Every power causing stagnancy in my life be disgraced forever, in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
      • Evil counsel against my breakthrough turns into foolishness, in the mighty name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
      • Every hunter looking for my destiny be blinded, in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  • Step Four: Nullifying Sacrifices – Ask God to reject petitions and sacrifices of evil altars in my territory and bloodline like what you Elijah did with Baal prophets or in the Cain and Abel Incident. The goal of this prayer is to activate the sacrifice of Calvary, charge the blood of Jesus against evil sacrifices, and petition God to nullify covenants of evil sacrifices by making a declaration like;
  • Step Five: Read the three guides below to learn more about the steps above and other strategies of warfare against the evil priesthoods.

In conclusion, the kingdom of darkness operates through structured priesthoods. As a result, we must embrace our priestly roles in prayer, intercession, and spiritual warfare. As Revelation 5:10 declares, we are made “kings and priests unto our God.” If we do not stand in our God-given authority, our lives, families, and territories will fall prey to the enemy’s priesthood and suffer these 3 critical consequences of neglecting prayer.
