“And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” (Job 1:7, KJV)

The phrase “going to and fro” in Job 1:7 is not a casual stroll but a deliberate act in ‘halak priesthood’. This is a concept rooted in Ezekiel 28:14 where Lucifer (Satan before his fall from glory) is called the “cherubim that covereth by … walking among the coals of fire”. This motion is associated with territorial takeover. After his fall, Satan continues this practice, as Peter 5:8 warns us of his prowling nature, seeking whom he may devour. When he came to Job’s domain, he found a territory he could not conquer because Job remained consistent in his priestly duties of offering sacrifices (Job 1:5).

This reveals that Satan’s attacks are strategic, and rooted in priesthood rather than brute strength. Job’s spiritual authority and adherence to priestly duties created a divine protection that prevented Satan from claiming his territory without explicit permission from God’s throne (Job 1:11-12). This is why Jesus advised the importance of prayer in Luke 18:1, teaching that prayer is our priesthood ministry, enabling heavenly intervention on earth (Matthe 6:10; Matthew 18:19). In this blog post, we shall look at the five secrets from Job’s story that we can mix with prayers to safeguard our families, nation, churches, and businesses, among other territories from Satan.

Secret One: Guard These Four Gates

Job 1:1 describes Job as “perfect and upright, one that feared God, and eschewed evil.” This verse highlights four critical qualities that safeguarded Job’s spiritual territory. One, he was perfect for he walked in the counsel of God, living a life aligned with divine guidance. Two, he was upright and blameless by living according to God’s standards of integrity. Three, he feared God, a quality that kept him compliant with divine laws, avoiding transgressions. Finally, he hated evil, which means he actively rejected sin and evil, safeguarding his spiritual boundaries.

These qualities represent key boundaries that, when maintained, prevent Satan from gaining a foothold (Ephesians 4:27). These are the same gates spoken about in Psalms 24:3-4: “those who have clean hands, a pure heart, and have not lifted up their soul to vanity or sworn deceitfully”. Transgressing these boundaries gives Satan a case against us, as he will present our failures before God. Thus, guarding these gates is essential for spiritual protection.

Secret Two: Offer Sacrifices

Job’s regular practice of offering sacrifices for his family is highlighted in Job 1:5. He sanctified his children, offering burnt offerings daily, saying, “It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.” This continuous act of intercession underscores the importance of spiritual sacrifices in maintaining divine protection.

In the New Testament, believers are called to offer spiritual sacrifices through prayer, worship, and righteous living. Hebrews 13:15 encourages us to offer a “sacrifice of praise continually.” Incorporating spiritual sacrifices into your prayer life fortifies your spiritual defenses and invites God’s intervention.

The power of sacrifices is further demonstrated in the story of Cornelius, as seen in Acts 10. Although he was not a man of great fame or high rank, his consistent practice of offering sacrifices to God opened the door for the Gospel to reach the Gentiles. His faithfulness in the priesthood, marked by his generosity and devotion to God, positioned him to be the vessel through which God’s plan for the Gentiles was fulfilled. Cornelius’ example emphasizes that consistency in offering spiritual sacrifices, even without great recognition or status, can have far-reaching effects in the kingdom of God.

Similarly, Ananias the “certain disciple” (Acts 9:10), who was less well-known, but played a pivotal role in connecting Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles, to the early church reminds us that God uses those faithful in their priesthood, regardless of their public profile, to fulfill His divine purposes. This reinforces the idea that consistent sacrifices to God, in the form of prayer, worship, and intercession, create a conduit for His will to manifest in our lives and the lives of others.

Secret Three: Practice Halak Priesthood

The concept of Halak priesthood involves a priestly act of claiming territory, as seen in Joshua 1:3, where God promised, “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you.” This motion signifies spiritual dominion and territorial claim.

In your prayers, envision yourself walking through your home, workplace, or community, spiritually claiming these areas for God. Declare His dominion over every sphere of your life, reinforcing spiritual boundaries and hedges of protection. Over every territory you want to see God’s power, pray Mathew 6:10: “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (NIV)

Identify the “gates” in your life—areas of influence, decision-making points, or vulnerabilities. Pray for wisdom and authority to guard these gates. Bind any negative spiritual forces attempting to enter, and invite God’s presence to dominate these areas.

Secret Four: Build the Hedge

Job 1:10 reveals that Satan acknowledged the divine hedge around Job: “Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?” This hedge was a spiritual barrier that protected Job and his possessions.

The effectiveness of this hedge was rooted in Job’s righteousness and continuous intercession. Building a spiritual hedge involves consistent prayer, righteous living, and invoking God’s protection over your life and loved ones.

Pray for a spiritual hedge around your life, pleading the blood of Jesus over your territory. Regularly invoke Psalm 91, which speaks of God’s protection, and trust in the impenetrable shield of His presence.

Step Five: Guard the Hedge

Job 1:11-12 illustrates that while God does not tempt with evil, He allows regulated temptations from Satan. The permission for such trials comes from God’s authority, and our prayers cannot prevent them but can seek grace to endure.

Signs of a compromised hedge include sudden spiritual attacks or persistent challenges. When these signs appear, it is essential to seek God’s guidance, asking Him to reveal any errors and provide grace to withstand trials. Sometimes, as in Job’s case, trials are not a result of personal sin but a divine test.

When facing trials, pray for discernment to understand their purpose. Seek grace to remain steadfast in faith, as Jesus prayed for Peter in Luke 22:31-32. Trust in God’s sovereignty, knowing that His grace is sufficient to endure all challenges (2 Corinthians 1:8).

In conclusion, Job’s story is a profound testament to the power of spiritual vigilance and prayer. Embrace these principles, and you will see God’s protection and blessings manifest in every area of your life. Stand firm in prayer, fortified by the lessons from Job’s life, and walk in the victory that comes from divine protection.
