8 Dimensions of Power in the Name of Jesus

Do you believe there is Power in the Name of Jesus?
Mark 16:17:
“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues“
There are dimensions of spiritual warfare that cannot be solved by emotion, routine prayer, or religious activity. There are battles that require spiritual authorization. There are systems of darkness that do not move because someone is sincere — they move because someone is sent, someone understands authority, and someone knows how to use the name of Jesus.
When Jesus sent out the seventy-two in Luke 10, He was not merely sending them to preach sermons and collect converts. He was sending them into spiritually contested environments — into cities and places where invisible powers had already built influence, systems, and altars.
And when they returned, their report was not merely that people listened.
Their report was this:
“Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”
(Luke 10:17)
This testimony reveals that:
- The name of Jesus carries jurisdiction.
- Devils recognize rank.
- Territorial darkness can be confronted.
- What Satan builds can be dismantled by believers who understand what has been placed in their hand.
Luke 10 gives us one of the clearest pictures of the 8 realms where the Name of Jesus carries over:
- Territories
- Thrones
- Demonic altars
- Resistance
- Serpents and scorpions
- Satan’s structure
- Heaven’s backing
- Kingdom establishment
Let us break explore deeper the Power in the Name of Jesus in the eight dimensions above.
1. The Name of Jesus Has Power Over Territories
The first thing to notice is where Jesus sent them.
“After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.”(Luke 10:1)
He sent them to cities and places.
That is important because in spiritual warfare, locations matter.
A territory is not just a piece of land. A territory can be:
- a city
- a village
- a region
- a nation
- a neighborhood
- a family line
- a household
- a workplace
- a school
- even a human life
A territory is any domain where influence is exercised and spiritual activity is sustained.
And according to Luke 10, Jesus understood that every city and place had spiritual realities attached to it.
This is why He did not send the seventy-two casually. Before this mission, we are told:
“Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.”
(Luke 9:1)
Notice the two things He gave them:
- Power
- Authority
These are not the same thing.
Authority is legal right, while Power is spiritual force.
You can think of it this way:
- Authority gives you the right to confront darkness.
- Power gives you the ability to enforce what your authority has declared.
That means Jesus did not send them empty-handed.
He sent them equipped to challenge whatever was sitting over those territories.
Because the truth is this: Satan wants territory.
Why did Jesus call Satan the prince of this world in John 14:30?
Because a prince is different from a king. A king possesses a kingdom and a lawful territory. A prince, however, only rules where influence is granted to him.
This is why Satan is busy securing:
- territory in families
- territory in marriages
- territory in finances
- territory in minds
- territory in cities
- territory in bloodlines
- territory in culture
This is why Paul says:
“Neither give place to the devil.”
(Ephesians 4:27)
That word place is not casual language. It implies room, foothold, jurisdiction, or ground.
Satan is a usurper. He is always looking for ground.
And once he gains ground, he begins to regulate outcomes in that territory:
- who rises and who falls
- who prospers and who struggles
- who marries and who delays
- who is visible and who remains hidden
- who breaks through and who cycles
This is why some battles are bigger than “bad luck.”
Sometimes what a person is dealing with is territorial resistance.
And Jesus showed us in Luke 10 that one of the chief instruments for confronting territorial resistance is His name.
The seventy returned saying:
“Even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”
(Luke 10:17)
That means territorial spirits are not impressed by personality, title, or noise — but they must respond to the name of Jesus when it is carried by a submitted believer.
The name of Jesus can enter a territory and announce:
- “This land does not belong to darkness.”
- “This family line will not remain under bondage.”
- “This city shall hear the gospel.”
- “This household shall be reclaimed.”
- “This cycle must break.”
When the name of Jesus is introduced into a territory, the right of darkness is challenged.
2. The Name of Jesus Has Power Over Thrones
Territories do not operate in isolation.
Behind territories are thrones.
A throne represents government, rule, and spiritual administration.
In other words, Satan does not just attack randomly — he builds systems of rule.
This is why Scripture says:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
(Ephesians 6:12)
This verse shows us that the kingdom of darkness is not disorderly. It is ranked.
And that matters, because many believers are trying to fight what they have not yet discerned.
Luke 10 helps us understand that when the seventy-two entered cities and places, they were not just confronting individual problems — they were confronting spiritual administrations.
In Luke 10:17, the word translated “devils” is tied to the Greek idea of daimonion, which are those spirits that seek worship, enthronement, and societal influence.
Some spirits do not just want to harass — they want to rule.
These are the kinds of spirits behind:
- idolatrous systems
- false worship
- occult devotion
- spiritual allegiance to powers other than God
These are not just “random attacks.”
These are governing spirits that gain strength where people give:
- reverence
- sacrifice
- fear
- ritual
- agreement
- allegiance
This is why in many places, darkness is not only personal — it is cultural.
It can become embedded in:
- traditions
- shrines
- symbols
- covenants
- family customs
- community rituals
- hidden dedications
This is what makes some environments spiritually “thick.”
Because behind the visible structure is an invisible throne.
And when people worship what is not God, they are often unknowingly strengthening a false spiritual government.
But Luke 10:17 shows us something powerful:The name of Jesus can dethrone what men have enthroned.
That is why the seventy-two came back shocked.
They had gone into environments where darkness had history, presence, and structure — and yet the spirits submitted.
Why?
Because the name of Jesus is not merely superior to demonic activity: The name of Jesus is superior to demonic government.
It confronts:
- false rule
- false authority
- false spiritual inheritance
- false coverings
- false enthronements
The name of Jesus has power over thrones.
3. The Name of Jesus Has Power Over Demonic Altars
Where there is a throne, there is often an altar because thrones are sustained by worship, and worship is often expressed through altars.
An altar is not just a physical structure made of stones or wood.
In spiritual terms, an altar is a point of transaction, covenant, devotion, exchange, and spiritual access.
Altars can be:
- physical
- cultural
- generational
- emotional
- ideological
- secret
- inherited
An altar is anything that becomes a meeting point between human agreement and spiritual influence.
This means a demonic altar may not always look like a shrine in the forest.
Sometimes a demonic altar is expressed through:
- repeated occult involvement
- bloodline dedication
- secret vows
- repeated rituals
- patterns of ungodly sacrifice
- sustained idolatry
- covenants made knowingly or unknowingly
And when altars are active, they become feeding systems for demonic influence.
This is why the enemy’s hold is often strengthened by human investment.
When people keep feeding darkness through:
- worship
- sacrifice
- agreement
- practice
- participation
they strengthen the altar that keeps the throne alive.
But this is where the gospel becomes glorious.
Because the name of Jesus carries altar-superiority.
Why? Because Jesus did not just come with a better argument.
He came with:
- a better covenant
- a better blood
- a better priesthood
- a better sacrifice
- a higher altar
This is why the name of Jesus is effective in deliverance.
Because it is backed by the finished work of Calvary.
So when a believer stands in the name of Jesus, they are not standing alone. They are standing on the authority of:
- the cross
- the blood
- the resurrection
- the ascension
- the enthronement of Christ
That means every demonic altar is inferior to what Jesus established.
The name of Jesus can challenge:
- altars of witchcraft
- altars of ancestral bondage
- altars of occult dedication
- altars of fear
- altars of lust
- altars of addiction
- altars of premature death
- altars of delay and limitation
Because where the blood of Jesus speaks, lesser altars lose their voice.

4. The Name of Jesus Has Power Over Opposition and Resistance
Luke 10 does not only show us power over spirits.
It also shows us that the believer will face hostility.
Jesus told them some would receive them — and some would reject them.
That tells us something important: Not every resistance is emotional or human. Some resistance is spiritual.
There are places where:
- truth is resisted
- righteousness is mocked
- breakthrough is blocked
- conviction is absent
- darkness seems normalized
Why? Because there are atmospheres where Satan has labored to create spiritual resistance.
This is why some people can be near truth for years and still remain untouched.
It is not always because they are merely stubborn. Sometimes there is spiritual backing behind the resistance.
But even in those environments, Jesus still sent His disciples.
That means this: No territory is too dark for the authority of Christ.
The name of Jesus was given for places where darkness is organized.
Not just for easy environments.
Not just for church meetings.
But for contested spaces.
This is why the believer must not fear darkness more than they trust Christ.
5. The Name of Jesus Has Power Over Serpents and Scorpions
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy…”
(Luke 10:19)
Jesus is not merely talking about reptiles here. He is using warfare imagery of witchcraft and divination to describe hostile demonic activity.
Serpents often represent:
- subtlety
- deception
- venom
- infiltration
- spiritual poison
Scorpions often represent:
- painful oppression
- hidden attack
- torment
- lingering affliction
Jesus is saying: “I have given you authority over the hidden, poisonous, tormenting operations of the enemy.”
And notice this phrase: “over all the power of the enemy” Not some. All.
This does not mean the believer should become careless or arrogant.
But it does mean the believer should stop acting like Satan is equal to Jesus.
He is not. The name of Jesus is not one power among many powers. It is the name above every name.
That means every serpent-like strategy and every scorpion-like oppression must ultimately bow where the authority of Christ is rightly enforced.
6. The Name of Jesus Has Power Over Heaven’s Response
“He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me…”
(Luke 10:16)
It means Jesus was telling the seventy-two: “When I send you, heaven backs your voice.”
That is the mystery of spiritual authority because a believer who is truly aligned with Christ is not speaking alone.
This is why the name of Jesus is not magic. It does not work as a charm, a formula, or a slogan.
The name of Jesus works where there is:
- submission
- alignment
- obedience
- faith
- consecration
- union with Christ
The sons of Sceva in Acts 19 tried to use the name of Jesus without relationship, submission, or divine backing — and the result was disaster.
That teaches us a serious lesson: The power of the name of Jesus is not in pronunciation — it is in divine authorization.
This is why the seventy-two succeeded.
They were:
- sent by Jesus
- submitted to Jesus
- functioning under His command
- moving in His delegated authority
And because of that, the spirit realm responded.
7. The Name of Jesus Has Power Over Satan’s Structure
When the disciples returned with joy, Jesus responded with this statement:
“I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”
(Luke 10:18)
That is not random.
Jesus was showing them that what they were seeing on the ground was connected to a larger spiritual reality: Satan’s system is a fallen system.
- It may still be active, but it is not ultimate.
- It may still resist, but it is not sovereign.
- It may still oppress, but it is already judged.
This is why believers must learn to fight from Christ’s victory, not for it.
You are not trying to make Jesus win. Jesus already won.
The name of Jesus works because it carries the authority of:
- a crucified Christ
- a risen Christ
- an ascended Christ
- an enthroned Christ
And that means every confrontation with darkness is taking place under a heaven that has already declared the outcome.
8. The Greatest Power of the Name of Jesus Is Not Just What It Casts Out — But What It Restores
Luke 10 is not only about devils submitting. It is also about the coming of the kingdom.
Jesus told them to say:
“The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.”
(Luke 10:9)
This means the name of Jesus does not only remove darkness. It establishes divine order.
That is the real goal of spiritual warfare.
Deliverance is not just about removing demons.
It is about restoring:
- rightful government
- divine order
- spiritual liberty
- covenant alignment
- kingdom presence
So when the name of Jesus enters a territory, it is not merely there to cause disturbance.
It is there to establish:
- truth where there was deception
- peace where there was torment
- righteousness where there was corruption
- healing where there was affliction
- liberty where there was bondage
This is why the name of Jesus is so feared by hell.
Because it does not merely interrupt darkness. It announces the arrival of a higher kingdom.
Conclusion on Power in the Name of Jesus
Luke 10 teaches us that the name of Jesus is not symbolic. It is not decorative. It is not a religious habit. It is a weapon of kingdom authority.
The seventy-two entered cities and places and discovered that darkness had to submit when the authority of Jesus was enforced.
And that same truth still stands today. The name of Jesus has power over:
- Territories — because no ground is beyond His jurisdiction
- Thrones — because no demonic government outranks Him
- Demonic Altars — because no false altar can compete with Calvary
- Serpents and Scorpions — because all the power of the enemy is under His feet
- Resistance and Opposition — because His kingdom still advances
- Satan’s Structure — because the enemy is already judged
So if there is a territory in your life that has been under siege…
If there is a throne of darkness that has been regulating outcomes…
If there is an altar speaking against your progress…
Then the answer is not panic.
You must know what has been placed in your hands.
Jesus did not leave His Church powerless. He gave us His name.
And where the name of Jesus is rightly carried, rightly believed, and rightly enforced: Devils still submit. Thrones still shake. Altars still collapse. And the kingdom of God still comes near.
