“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13, KJV)

Let’s break this verse down word by word. “I can” speak of ability and possibility. “Do” is an active verb, suggesting continuous action, not a one-time event. “All things” means whole, everything, without exception. “Through” indicates a channel, emphasizing our connection to the source – “Christ“. “Which strengtheneth” means to make strong, to empower, to enable. Finally, “Me” brings out the personal touch because while this is a universal truth, it must be personally appropriated. This breakdown is proof that God’s strength often manifests not by removing our challenges but by increasing our capacity to handle them. Based on this understanding, let’s explore six prayers that serve as anchors in times of storm by positioning us to receive God’s supernatural strength.

Prayer One: Inner Strengthening

Ephesians 3:16 – “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.” According to this verse, the foundation of spiritual strength begins with inner fortification. This inner strengthening is crucial because external challenges require internal power to overcome them for “The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?” (Proverbs 18:14)

Sample Prayer: “Heavenly Father, I pray that You would strengthen me with might through Your Spirit in my inner being. Increase the capacity of my spirit so that I might not be overwhelmed by life’s challenges. Let every storm that arises be encountered by Your might within me. Grant me the ability to carry the weight of my current circumstances with grace and dignity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Prayer Two: Breakthrough Power

For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.” (Psalm 18:29) In this verse, David’s testimony demonstrates that divine strength enables us to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. Prophet Jeremiah also testified “But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble.” (Jeremiah 20:11)

Unlike human strength, which is limited and exhaustible, God’s strength operates on an entirely different plane. When we tap into His might, we access resources that transcend our natural abilities. When we rely solely on our human capabilities, we’re more likely to falter under pressure.

Sample Prayer: “God, grant me the supernatural capacity to leap over walls of limitation. Where circumstances have created barriers, give me the strength to break through. I pray against every spirit of confinement and restriction in my life. Just as You enabled David to run through troops and leap over walls, empower me to overcome the obstacles before me. I refuse to be quarantined by negative circumstances or contained by the enemy’s strategies. Grant me the might to break free from every restriction. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Prayer Three: Courage in Spiritual Warfare

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7). During moments of spiritual warfare, there is a natural human tendency to respond with fear when facing opposition. This verse reveals that with the Spirit of God backing up with strength, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.” (Isaiah 54:17)

Sample Prayer: “Mighty God, I thank You that You haven’t given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. When Satan forms weapons based on my human limitations, I thank You that Your strength in me exceeds his calculations. Grant me wisdom to discern the enemy’s tactics and courage to stand firm in faith. I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against me in judgment is condemned. Through Your strength, I am more than a conqueror. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Prayer Four: Sustained Strength

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31) This verse reveals a progressive revelation of sustained strength: walking to running to mounting up. This progression teaches us that divine strength adapts to our different seasons. However, always remember that the promise of renewed strength comes with a condition – waiting upon the Lord.

Sample Prayer: “Heavenly Father, I choose to wait upon You today. Renew my strength so that I might mount up with wings as eagles, rising above every circumstance that seeks to weigh me down. Grant me strength to run this race without growing weary, and to walk without fainting. I pray for strength that doesn’t just last for a moment but endures through every season. Let Your might become a constant resource in my spirit, available whenever challenges arise. Help me to develop spiritual stamina that doesn’t falter under pressure. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Prayer Five: Daily Renewal

The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” (Proverbs 4:18) This verse establishes a fundamental truth about the believer’s journey – it is meant to be progressively glorious. When coupled with 2 Corinthians 4:16, which assures us that “though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day,” we see God’s promise of daily renewal and increasing strength. Furthermore, Deuteronomy 33:25 confirms this promise with the assurance that “as thy days, so shall thy strength be.” These scriptures paint a picture of continuous growth and fresh strength for each new day, much like the daily provision of manna in the wilderness.

Sample Prayer: “Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your promise of progressive glory in my life. I declare that my path shines brighter and brighter unto the perfect day, and I reject every lie that suggests my best days are behind me. Thank You that while my outward man may face challenges, my inward man is renewed day by day through Your Spirit. Like the manna You provided in the wilderness, I ask for fresh strength for today’s challenges. I refuse to rely on yesterday’s strength but position myself to receive new grace for new challenges. Like the believers of old who received divine might, I ask for a fresh infusion of Your strength daily. Just as You promised that my strength would match my days, I receive supernatural enablement for every task before me. Let Your glory increase in my life day by day until that perfect day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Prayer Six: Manifested Victory

If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small” (Proverbs 24:10). This verse reveals that our response to adversity is a measure of our spiritual strength. Failing, fainting, falling, and faltering in the day of trouble is proof that you have not received strength from the Lord. The goal isn’t just to survive difficulties but to demonstrate God’s victorious power through them, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4). This is further reinforced in 2 Corinthians 2:14: “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ.”

Sample Prayer: Lord let there be evidence in my life and destiny that because you increased my strength, I went beyond the expectations of the kingdom of darkness. Father, cause me to triumph in Christ Jesus. Let my life demonstrate that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Let every challenge become an opportunity to showcase Your strength. Through faith in You, I overcome the world and all its challenges. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

In conclusion, the journey of faith often requires strength beyond our human capacity. Through consistent prayer, we develop resilience, expand our spiritual capacity, experience breakthroughs, encourage others with our testimony, and learn to rely more fully on God’s might. May these prayers anchor you in storms and lift you in opportunities, always pointing you back to the true source of strength—our mighty God.
