The anointing is not just a spiritual feeling or a religious experience. It is God’s divine empowerment that enables you to rule, influence, and bring freedom to others. When God anoints you, He assigns you to a specific territory or sphere of influence. The anointing is God’s authorization for dominion. It means heaven recognizes your authority in that area and expects you to walk in power.

Isaiah 10:27says, “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” This shows us that the anointing is not for show or fame; it is for breaking yokes, removing burdens, and setting people free. Let us look at five practical ways to carry this kind of anointing that truly transforms lives.

1. Learn to Handle the Sword of the Spirit

The first key to carrying the anointing is knowing how to use the Word of God effectively. The Bible calls the Word “the sword of the Spirit” in Ephesians 6:17. A soldier without skill in handling his sword is easily defeated. In the same way, a believer who does not know how to rightly divide the Word of truth cannot effectively wield the anointing.

Learning to handle the Word means spending time studying, meditating, and understanding Scripture so that it becomes alive in your spirit. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He used the Word to silence the enemy by saying, “It is written.” (Matthew 4:4). That is how you handle the sword.

In daily life, this might mean using the Word to fight fear, confusion, or temptation. When anxiety rises, declare Philippians 4:6-7. When doubt comes, speak Romans 8:37. The more the Word abides in you, the sharper your spiritual sword becomes.

2. Live a Lifestyle of Fasting

Fasting is not punishment to the body; it is discipline for the spirit. Jesus said in Matthew 17:21, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” Fasting breaks the hold of the flesh and strengthens your spiritual sensitivity. It helps you overcome appetites that war against your anointing.

When you learn to say “no” to food for a season, it becomes easier to say “no” to sin and temptation. For example, many believers struggle with lust, anger, or addiction simply because the flesh is stronger than the spirit. Fasting weakens the flesh so that your inner man can take charge.

A person who fasts regularly carries a stronger presence of God because they create room for the Holy Spirit to fill them afresh. When your body is quiet, your spirit becomes loud enough to hear God clearly.

3. Accept the Weight of Glory

Many people desire to be anointed, but few are willing to carry the weight that comes with it. They want the crown without the cross. The word “glory” in Hebrew means “weight.” This means the anointing is not just about shining; it comes with responsibility, sacrifice, and sometimes suffering.

Think of Jesus in Gethsemane. He prayed until His sweat became like drops of blood (Luke 22:44). Moses had to lead a stubborn people through the wilderness, and Paul was often imprisoned, beaten, and rejected. Yet all these men carried great anointing because they carried great weight.

Carrying the anointing means saying yes to God even when it is uncomfortable. It means being faithful when others give up. The weight of glory will sometimes make you weep, but it will also make you wise. It will crush pride and produce humility. Remember, oil only flows after the olive has been pressed.

4. Partner with the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the carrier of the anointing. Without Him, ministry becomes empty and powerless. In 1 John 2:27, we are told, “The anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you.” This means the Holy Spirit Himself dwells within you as the anointing.

To carry the anointing that breaks yokes, you must learn to fellowship daily with the Holy Spirit. Talk to Him, listen to Him, and allow Him to guide you. Partnership with the Holy Spirit is the difference between working for God and working with God. The more you walk in intimacy with the Holy Spirit, the more the anointing flows naturally through your life.

5. Stay Connected to the Altar of Prayer

Prayer is the altar that sustains the fire of the anointing. Every man or woman who carried a lasting anointing in Scripture was a person of prayer. Jesus often withdrew to pray alone (Luke 5:16). Elijah prayed earnestly until fire fell from heaven. Daniel prayed three times a day, even in captivity. Prayer keeps your spiritual oil fresh. It aligns your will with God’s will and recharges your spirit. Without prayer, the anointing dries up. The more you pray, the more you draw from the Source.

In modern life, you can create personal prayer altars by setting daily times to seek God, worship, and listen. Even short, consistent times of prayer carry great power when done in faith. The key is consistency, not length. When prayer becomes your lifestyle, you will carry the anointing that not only breaks yokes but also sustains victory.

Conclusion

The anointing is God’s power flowing through human vessels to bring freedom, healing, and transformation. To carry the anointing that breaks yokes, you must handle the Word with precision, live a fasted life, embrace the weight of glory, walk with the Holy Spirit, and stay faithful to the altar of prayer. The more you yield to these principles, the stronger the flow of the anointing becomes. Remember, it is not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord (Zechariah 4:6). Let your life be a vessel through which His power can flow freely to heal, deliver, and set others free.
