“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” (Revelation 12:9, KJV)
This verse unveils the origin of demons – fallen angels who rebelled against God’s divine order. Led by Lucifer, once a guardian angel (Ezekiel 28:14), approximately one-third of the heavenly hosts were cast down to Earth. These spiritual entities, now known as demons, operate under Satan’s leadership, seeking to disrupt God’s perfect plan for humanity.
Demons are spiritual beings without physical bodies. Unlike humans, who are three-dimensional beings with body, soul, and spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:23), demons require human vessels to manifest on Earth. For this reason, demons constantly seek to acquire these human vessels through two main strategies: possession and demonization.
The biblical account of Legion (Mark 5:1-20) illustrates the extreme case of possession, where multiple demons completely control an individual. In demonization, their strategy is not always complete possession but often subtle infiltration through what we’ll call “demonic doors” – spiritual access points that allow their influence not completely, just partly.
For example, in 2 Corinthians 6:14-16, Apostle Paul identified six spiritual doors that can allow demons to gain influence in our lives. Let’s discuss how these doors must be vigilantly closed through prayer and spiritual discipline to safeguard our lives.
Prayer One: Closing the Door of Unequal Yokes
Paul warned in 2 Corinthians 6:14, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers..”. This unequal yoke could manifest in relationships, partnerships, or even the media we consume. For instance, indulging in books, movies, or television shows that glorify ungodly behavior can open doors to demonic influence. Christians are called to be in the world but not of the world (John 17:16). If worldly influences begin shaping our lives, we’ve allowed a demonic door to remain open (Romans 12:2).
Prayer: “Sovereign God, I come before You, acknowledging that I have yoked myself to ungodly influences. I repent and renounce all such yokes in my life. By the authority of Jesus Christ, I sever every ungodly connection and close the door of yokes in my life. Break every unrighteous connection that hinders my spiritual growth. Fill me with discernment to recognize and reject influences that pull me away from Your path. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to walk in righteousness and purity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Prayer Two: Closing the Door of Unlawful Fellowship
“And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?” (2 Corinthians 6:15). Being a lukewarm Christian, partaking at both the table of God and the table of demons (1 Corinthians 10:21), is a clear example of leaving this door open. When we entertain sin, even while claiming to follow Christ, we dilute our faith and give demons an entry point. This is similar to trying to walk in light while embracing darkness—an impossibility for you cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24).
Prayer: “Sovereign God, I confess that I have entertained fellowship with lawlessness, knowingly or unknowingly. I repent and renounce all such associations and influences. Forgive me for entertaining thoughts and behaviors that displease You. I reject the spirit of compromise. Cleanse me with Your precious blood and help me to walk in the light as You are in the light. Reestablish my commitment to Your kingdom, removing all double-mindedness. Realign my heart completely with Your will. I declare that I will serve You wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Prayer Three: Closing the Door of Ungodly Communion
Paul warns against communion with darkness, stating, “What communion hath light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14). Communion implies deep spiritual connection and mutual influence where two parties share everything in common. This goes beyond casual interaction – it involves allowing external influences to shape one’s spiritual landscape entirely. For instance, harboring bitterness, unforgiveness, or habitual sin invites demonic oppression.
Prayer: “Sovereign God, I recognize that I have allowed darkness to take root in my life. I repent of any bitterness, unforgiveness, or sin that has grieved Your Spirit. I renounce all communion with darkness and close this door by the power of the Holy Spirit. Cleanse me from all ungodly influences that have gained access to my life. Restore my spiritual boundaries and sanctify my entire being. Let Your light fill every part of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Prayer Four: Closing the Door of Idolatrous Agreement
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). Agreement implies alignment and unity of purpose. We make agreements with demons when we struggle with idols. Idolatry may not be as overt as bowing to physical idols but can include putting anything—money, career, relationships—above God. That means that anything that displaces God’s preeminence in one’s life or competes with our spiritual devotion is an idol.
Prayer: “Sovereign God, I repent of any agreement I have made with idols or worldly pursuits that have taken Your place in my heart. I break every covenant made with these things and declare that You alone are my God. Remove spiritual blindness and reveal any hidden allegiances. Make me wholly devoted to Your purposes. Restore me as a pure temple of the Holy Spirit. Help me to honor You in every aspect of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Prayer Five: Closing the Door of Satanic Parts
Participating in occult practices, making rash vows, or engaging in ungodly partnerships gives Satan access to certain “parts” of our lives. When Satan gets a part in your life, he secures a leverage or legal right to operate generational bondages among other spiritual transactions.
Prayer: “Sovereign God, I renounce every covenant, vow, or agreement that I have made with the enemy. I break these covenants by the blood of Jesus and close every door that has been opened to demonic influence. I revoke every legal document signed in the spiritual realm against my destiny. I break every generational curse and renounce any covenant made with darkness. By Your blood, I cancel every assignment of the enemy. Set me completely free. Purify me and restore every part of my life to Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Prayer Six: Closing the Door of Spiritual Concords
Modern practices, such as embracing secular ideologies or blending Christianity with other religions, are forms of concord with darkness. These often begin as subtle alignments with demonic strategies, and eventually end up gradually eroding spiritual resistance. These compromises grieve the Holy Spirit and allow demons to subtly infiltrate our lives. It is vital to reject any form of syncretism and remain steadfast in the truth of God’s Word.
Prayer: “Sovereign God, I renounce all concord with idols, false ideologies, and worldly practices. I reject every strategy designed to compromise my spiritual integrity. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, establishing complete resistance against enemy schemes. Help me to maintain my spiritual vigilance. Strengthen me to stand firm in Your truth and walk in obedience to Your Word. I declare that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and dedicate it fully to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
In conclusion, Satan may not always form strongholds in a believer’s life, but he can establish footholds through small cracks and open doors (Ephesians 4:27-29; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5). The six doors we’ve discussed—yokes, fellowship, communion, agreement, parts, and concord—are not exhaustive but provide a framework for understanding how demonic influences can creep in. Vigilant prayer and spiritual discipline are essential to closing these doors, staying vigilant, and walking in freedom (John 8:36).
In Luke 13:10-17, Jesus declared freedom to the daughter of Abraham who had been bound by Satan for 18 years. Similarly, as sons and daughters of Abraham (Galatians 3:13-14), we have the authority to declare liberty in every aspect of our lives.
Let this be your daily declaration: “As a child of Abraham, I step into liberty in every aspect of my life. I declare that I am free from all demonic influences, and I walk in the fullness of my birthright in Christ. Amen.”
