”So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God..” (Romans 10:17, KJV)
This verse reveals that faith is built upon the foundation of God’s Word. God has magnified His Word above His name (Psalms 138:2), meaning that God does not operate outside His Word. Since God cannot violate His Word, let us look at the three key aspects of God’s Word that guarantee He will always respond to faith exercised in prayer.
One: Spiritual Facts
A spiritual fact is a divine provision that does not require further payment. For instance, salvation is a spiritual fact. Jesus has already paid for it, but individuals must exercise faith to personally receive it (Romans 10:9-10). Spiritual facts are divine realities that have already been secured for us through Christ’s finished work on the cross. These are not future possibilities but present realities that believers can access through faith. For example, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities… and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). This declares that healing, peace, and forgiveness have already been purchased for us.
Two: Promises
A promise is a divine commitment from God to His people. The world is uncertain, but God’s promises are sure. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to trust in the Lord rather than lean on our understanding. This is because God is El Shaddai—the All-Sufficient One. Unlike human agreements, which may fail, God’s promises are backed by His integrity and faithfulness. Faith is not based on ignorance but on knowledge of God’s ability. Abraham knew that God “quickeneth the dead and calleth those things which be not as though they were.” (Romans 4:16-17) This knowledge convinced him to trust God’s promise. If God gives a promise, it is certain because He cannot lie (Numbers 23:19). A promise from God is an assurance that His hand will be with you throughout the journey.
Three: Covenants
A covenant is a higher level of commitment from God. While a promise is a guarantee, a covenant is a binding agreement sealed by an oath. Hebrews 6:13-18 illustrates this through God’s covenant with Abraham. When God moves from a promise to a covenant, it means He is deeply committed to fulfilling His Word. Covenant-based faith in prayer is powerful because it is rooted in both God’s Word and His sworn oath. When we approach God in prayer with covenant faith, we can expect supernatural intervention.
In conclusion, faith grows through hearing and standing on God’s Word. In prayer, we activate faith by aligning our requests and petitions with God’s spiritual facts, standing on His promises, and walking in His covenants. As we do, we will experience the reality of God’s power and faithfulness in our lives.
